The day started in Annapolis with the Tenon USA sales team and one of their key customers Don Finn from Lumber Merchandising Corporation (LMC). Here we gained an insight into the supply chain and some of the key issues with the supply and delivery of products within the US market. www.lmc.net
The sales team from Tenon including President Richard Fitzgerald and Sales Manager Tim Myers also gave the team a great introduction to some of the key issues facing the products from the New Zealand manufacturing environment. From Logistics to relations with key contractors.
The afternoon was taken up visiting Mike Moore the Vice President of Materials Management at TW Perry one the the large building material suppliers in the DC area and 6th nationally. Their focus is on high end custom building, remodelling and deck builders with a very small percentage of large home builders. They have built a unique and successful operation and illustrated a very different approach to sales.
A quick walk through Lowes and Home Depot provided the final contrast for the day, illustrating the tough retail environment DIY products have and the scale of the operations involved.
