Compass is a product focussed consumer research project for the US market. Specifically in the area of finger jointed and primed building products for exterior use.
The project is being undertaken by Scion and Locus Research in partnership with two key forestry products companies Tenon and Panpac Forest Products.
The Compass project is focused on identifying new product opportunities for the residential building sector based on the use of finger jointed radiata pine with a particular emphasis on exterior cladding (siding) trim and facia products.
The US residential building sector comprises of around 1.6 million single-family home starts per year and 350,000 multi-family starts. The total value of the sector is around $400 billion annually. The future predictions have the number of new houses continuing to rise at comparable rates to today out to 2015. In addition to this there is a sizeable market for renovations, remodeling and retrofit.
Such a demand for housing generates significant opportunity for new products. |
